Puerto Rico Treasury Adopts New Monthly Tax Return

Puerto Rico Department  of Treasury adopts a new Sales and Use Tax and Tax on Imports Monthly Return which consolidates both the Tax on Imports Monthly Return currently due on the 10th day of the following month and the Sales and Use Tax Monthly Return currently due on the 20th day of the following month .

The new Sales and Use Tax and Tax on Imports Monthly Return (Form AS 2915.1) (the
“New SUT Monthly Return”), was notified by the Puerto Rico Treasury Department on October 26, 2021 through Internal Revenue Informative Bulletin No. 21-08, consolidating the Tax on Imports Monthly Return currently due on the 10th day of the following month and the Sales and Use Tax Monthly Return currently due on the 20th day of the following month. The new return corresponding to the month of October 2021 is due on Monday, November 22, 2021.

One of the most significant changes to the new return is that merchants will need to restore the portion of the bond being used in the Declarations of Imports (Form AS 2970.1) filed during the period to complete the filing of the New SUT Monthly Return.
