Biography
Juan A. Aquino is a Member in the Corporate Department at O’Neill & Borges LLC, where he has practiced since 1995. With over 30 years of experience in private law practice, Juan has built a career advising financial institutions, private companies, and international investors on complex commercial lending, loan workouts, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate transactions.
Juan is highly experienced in commercial lending, where he represents borrowers, lenders, and credit enhancers in structuring and negotiating sophisticated financing arrangements. He regularly advises banks and other financial institutions on workouts and restructurings of non-performing loans, guiding clients through foreclosures and restructurings with practical, business-oriented solutions that balance creditor protection with effective resolutions.
In the mergers and acquisitions arena, Juan has managed both asset and stock transactions, representing local businesses, U.S. corporations, and international entities entering the Puerto Rico market. His work includes advising on corporate governance, transaction structuring, and regulatory compliance, enabling clients to complete cross-border and domestic deals with confidence.
Juan’s real estate practice extends across residential, commercial, and tourism development projects. Juan earned his B.A. from Marquette University in 1985 and his J.D. from the University of Puerto Rico in 1988. He is admitted to practice in Puerto Rico, the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
