Biography
Aura A. Montes Rodríguez is a member in the Litigation Department at O’Neill & Borges LLC. She represents clients in complex commercial disputes, including breach of contract, insurance claims, creditors’ rights, business torts, product liability, regulatory matters, and administrative proceedings. Clients rely on Aura for her strategic insight and deep litigation experience, especially when navigating challenging legal and business issues.
Aura has successfully handled cases in both state and federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and appellate courts. She is known for delivering practical solutions and strong advocacy at every stage of litigation.
Before joining O’Neill & Borges, Aura clerked for Associate Justice Hon. Edgardo Rivera-García of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. She is also a published author of several law review articles.
- Orlando Ortiz, et al., v. Pórticos del Sol Development, Corp., et al., AC-2020-0035, et al.Puerto Rico Supreme Court, December 23, 2021 (unpublished). Represented a construction loan creditor against several plaintiffs in an injunction and declaratory judgment action. The firm obtained a judgment from the Puerto Rico Supreme Court dismissing all claims against the client for lack of subject-matter jurisdiction pursuant to the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act.
- Santos-Rodríguez v. Seastar Sols., 858 F.3d 695, 696 (1st Cir. 2017). Represented the manufacturer of a vessel’s steering mechanism sued for tort damages and product liability in the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. The firm obtained a favorable summary judgment, which was affirmed in a paradigmatic Opinion issued by the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
- Isla Verde Holdings, LLC, v. Golden Debt, LLC, et al., TA2025CE00395, 2025 WL 2937350, Puerto Rico Court of Appeals, September 23, 2025 (pending appeal). Represented third-party defendants in an alter ego litigation. The firm secured a ruling from the Court of Appeals vacating and reversing the trial court’s order and granting summary judgment in the clients’ favor.
- Consejo de Titulares de 76 Kings Court Condominium v. MAPFRE Praico Ins. Co., 208 DPR 1018 (2022). Represented a condominium association in a property insurance case, in which the firm successfully argued before the Puerto Rico Supreme Court that Puerto Rico’s insurance bad faith statute applies retroactively.
- Consejo de Titulares del Condominio Terrazas del Parque Escorial v. v. MAPFRE Praico Ins. Co., CA2019CV03423 (pending appeal). Represented a condominium association in a Hurricane María insurance litigation case. The firm’s trial team secured a judgment of more than $6 million.
