Biography
Alberto O. Nieves-Cubero is a corporate attorney in Puerto Rico who helps clients navigate business, finance, and real estate transactions with clarity and strategic insight. He joined O’Neill & Borges LLC in 2020 and now serves as a Member of the firm’s Corporate Department. His practice concentrates on corporate and commercial law, financial regulation, commercial lending, and real estate transactions, representing both local and international clients in a broad range of business and financing matters. He helps clients navigate complex corporate, finance, and real estate transactions with clarity and strategic insight, integrating rigorous legal analysis with a strong foundation in finance and business law.
Alberto advises financial institutions, lenders, and borrowers on the structuring, negotiation, and documentation of commercial lending and portfolio acquisition transactions, as well as on regulatory licensing, compliance matters, and due diligence before financial and other regulatory authorities. He has extensive experience drafting and negotiating agreements, instruments, and other documentation related to commercial, real estate, and financial regulatory transactions.
Before entering private practice, Alberto served as Legal Advisor to a financial institution, where he provided counsel on commercial and consumer law, regulatory compliance, operational risk, and technology contracting. Earlier in his career, he held positions in risk management, information security, and internal controls at local and international banking institutions, gaining in-depth experience with financial operations, enterprise risk, and regulatory frameworks. This background in banking enables him to advise clients on complex financing and regulatory matters with a deep understanding of both legal and operational perspectives.
Alberto earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Boston University in 2009, concentrating in Finance and Business Law, and his J.D. from the University of Puerto Rico in 2016. He is admitted to practice in Puerto Rico, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
