We represent insurance companies engaged in the life, disability, property, casualty, title, surety and fidelity lines of insurance, health service organizations, brokers, and service contract providers.

Among the services we provide in the insurance area are the representation of domestic and foreign insurers with the authorization process in Puerto Rico, assistance in the audits performed by the Commissioner of Insurance and/or the Puerto Rico Department of Treasury, counseling in regulatory matters, request for approval of contract and policy forms, reinsurance related matters and applications for the different licenses and permits under the Puerto Rico Insurance Code, and work on bills and regulations promulgated by the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.

We also represented various companies in stock and asset acquisitions, including management buy-outs, in all the phases of the process, structure, negotiations, drafting, and the request for the approval by the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.

From a litigation standpoint, extensive experience in insurance related litigation such as defense for claims against group life and health policies, and litigation of antitrust and regulatory issues. Our litigation experience includes local and federal court cases as well as administrative claim litigation before various state agencies, including the Puerto Rico Health Insurance Administration, the Office of the Patients’ Advocate, the Department of Health and the Commissioner of Insurance.

We also represent health insurance companies, health management organizations, health facilities, health providers, behavioral management services organizations, medicine manufacturers, and distributors. We regularly assist clients with commencement of operation matters, license applications, and with local and federal regulatory issues applicable in Puerto Rico, which may have an impact on their Puerto Rico operations.

We deal on a regular basis with the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, the Puerto Rico Department of Health and with the Puerto Rico Health Insurance Administration, the government entity responsible for the negotiation and establishment of the government health care insurance program.
